New Goal

While working on lesson planning this morning, I came up with this idea to have the class write a book and have it published as an end of the year sort of thing. I want them to see themselves as authors and illustrators. I happened to stumble on this page that would allow me to get the work published for free and our school will be entered to win a $1,000 grant. The only thing is, that we would have to have the work published by Feb. 28th to be entered. That doesn't give us much time to write and illustrate a book. I'm going to talk with the class on Monday about it and see what they think. I don't want to stress them out, but I really think they would love to see their work published. What do you all think?

  1. BJ Kinsley here (Alli's dad). I think it is a wonderful idea. It will also help teach them about deadlines and working hard for something that they want.

  3. Carrie (Sophia's Mom) This sounds like a good idea. Sophia says it will help the pre-schoolers understand what kindergarten is like!

  4. Amanda, Seth's mom loves the idea. Excited to see the finished product. Will we be able to purchase a copy?

This is the site I am using. It looks like parents will be able to purchase copies :) I want to get it published, then once we receive our copy, I was thinking of having a publishing party and inviting all of you to listen to the read and celebrate their accomplishment. I think that would be really nice for them. They all are so excited. We brainstormed yesterday and we came up with a genre and theme for the book. They are so excited to start the writing process!
